Paper Cooling

The theory behind this project was that I could use a system of pipes and fans, to suck freezing cold Pittsburgh winter air from outside my room and blow it into my case. Ideally, the pipes would be made of thick PVC so they would be good insulators and keep the air cold until it reaches the case. Also it would have been nice to have had silicone rubber seals between each section of pipe and around the fans that pump the air.

But this is Afrotech. We don't have high budget shit like pipes. Or fans.

Looking around the room I found the stack of paper I usually do my homework on. I made the pipes out of this paper, using lots of tape to stick it all together. The bizarre shape of the pipes was so one end could stick outsite my window, then go down past other crap in my room, take a few turns under my desk, then the other end can reach the pc.

Since I didn't have any spare fans, I ripped out the one system fan that I had in my case and stick it onto one end of the pipe.

I stuck one end of the pipe out of my window, and the other into the case and turned everything on.

Obviously it didn't work very well.. paper is a crap insulator, the fan wasn't powerful enough, the bent shape of the pipe totally screwed airflow etc. etc.

Amazingly it actually lowered the temperature of things by a few degrees?!

So there you have it. For the price of 10 sheets of paper and some tape you can cool your system during the winter, and have the dumbest.. er.. grooviest! looking setup in your neighbourhood.
