Ok.. so something fun happened the other day. I was trying to defrost my fridge, and the freezer had like 10cm of ice on it. J and I were chipping away at it arnold style with a screwdriver and some pliers and all these chunks of ice were flying everywhere. All of a sudden J hits the gas pipeline and PFSHHHHHHHH he gets a bigass spray of yummy toxic refrigerant all over his face. So basically my fridge died and J has like half a lung left but worst of all was that my snapple was getting warm! Argh warm snapple tastes like cat pee (Endo told me). So I finally got off my ass and made

Afrotech's Snapple Cooler

I started by getting a cheap 25W thermoelectric cooler from Meci. Then I got a bigass zinc plated steel bolt from home depot for a buck. The bolt was chosen because it's head had enough surface area to match the TEC, and its shaft was long enough to dip all the way into a snapple bottle.

The bolt had all sorts of writing and bumps and crap on top which were crap for heat transfer. So I dremelled a flat a surface as possible.

While cleaning my room I found my old chrome orb hsf in a suitcase. I sanded off the corners of the circley thing so the square TEC could fit right up against it, and put on a new layer of thermal paste. Then I glued the tec on, which also potted the sides nicely.

I pasted up the bolt and glued it to the other side of the tec.

After plugging it in for a little while, some ice started to form. Groovy.

Snapplemark 2009 Benchmark Results:
As far as cooling, it worked great. I stuck it in snapple 24hrs/day for like 4 days and it was keeping the snapple as cold as if I had a real fridge.

Fuxx0redmark 2003 Benchmark Results:
Very fuxx0red. The last 2 days I was using it, my snapple tasted kinda funny. And I was getting a lot of headaches. So I took the bolt out and let the snapple drip off. Holy crap was it filthy. The snapple ate away at the zinc plating and the steel was rusting like crazy. Here is a picture of the bolt after a lot of cleaning.

So yeah, I definitely lost some brain cells drinking that crap.
